Founded in 1946, the American Immigration Lawyers Association is designed to provide a support network for attorneys who practice immigration law. The association has over 14,000 members who represent clients ranging from those seeking asylum to entertainers, foreign students, and athletes, with much of the work being done on a pro bono basis. Additionally, association members work with US families who want to obtain permanent residency status for foreign-born relatives as well as businesses that recruit internationally.
The association’s mission is to advocate for the establishment of reasonable laws and policies when it comes to immigration practices. The organization also strives to provide enhanced professional development to legal professionals and to increase member participation in advocacy efforts before government agencies such as the Judiciary and Congress.
